Samsung Fascinate Known Issues document leaks

Samsung Fascinate Known Issues document leaks: "

This list is very, very long. Maybe they should have fixed some of this before release?


One of our Verizon Wireless connects was nice enough to send us an internal “known issues” list for the recently launched Samsung Fascinate. Some of the issues are a little troublesome, while others are pretty harmless. Here are a couple issues we pulled out of the document:



  • Alert Notifications:
 There is no option to change the Calendar alert notification. 
Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue.

  • Blank Screen: 
If you are on a call and a second call comes in, you get the correct Caller ID information. If you answer the second call, the caller ID screen goes blank and does not show any caller information. 
Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue

  • Email Sync: 
In some cases exchange e-mail and yahoo mail can stop syncing
Short term work around: The user can manually sync
Planned Resolution: A fix for this issue will be included in the MR 1 release for this device.

  • Exchange ActiveSync Security Lock:
 The EAS security lock may be invoked earlier then the timer is set for.

  • Google and Bing Maps Latency:
 It has been reported that it takes longer then other devices to get GPS location information when using Google and Bing maps. 
Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue

  • Call Disconnect:
If you are on a call or in the process of receiving an incoming call and you press the search button the call may be disconnected.

Bluetooth


Known Issues


Car Kit Connect:

In some rare occasions when connected to the 2009 Mercedes Benz AMG C63 car kit the car kit will announce “Connect…. ready…. connect…. ready…. connect….”.

Short term work around: Power the device off and then back on and pair with the car again

Backlight Timeout:

When on a call using Bluetooth and the backlight times out you have to unlock the screen to end the call

Short term work around: There is no short term work around for this issue

Car Kit Contact Sync:

When syncing contacts to a 2010 Toyota Prius, only phone contacts and not EAS contacts sync.

Calendar


Known Issues


Alert Notifications:

Known Issues


Soft Key Backlight:

The backlight on the 4 bottom buttons (menu, home, back, and search) only stay on for 5 seconds. These do not correspond with screen timeout settings.

E-mail


Known Issues


No Message Delete Status:

When deleting e-mails there is no status indication that this is taking place so users may feel that the device is locked up when it is just actively deleting e-mails

Email Sync:

Snyc Error:

In some cases when the screen goes dark while syncing the device will display the error “unable to open connection to server”.

Exchange Security Policy Email Password:

There is no ability to change the device password after Exchange security policy is applied. There is no password option in the Location & Security settings menu, only swipe unlock settings

Exchange ActiveSync Security Lock Screen:

When the EAS security is invoked, a new lock screen is introduced. Also the unlock icons do not line up with the border of the wallpaper.

Exchange ActiveSync Security Lock:

The EAS security lock may be invoked earlier then the timer is set for.

New Account Sync Frequency Default:

When a user sets up a Pop 3 e-mail account on the device the default e-mail sync frequency is defaulted to never.

Corporate Email Policy Special Characters:

When Corporate email policies require the device to have a password, special characters are not supported

Corporate Email Inbox Error:

In some cases users may receive the error “Unable to open connection to server” intermittently when attempting to refresh their corporate email inbox

Feed and Widget Updates


Known Issues


No Updates:

In some cases feeds and widgets do not update

Short term work around: In this case users may need to manually request the update

FOTA (Over The Air Upgrade)


Known Issues


Not Available via Wi-Fi:

If the device is in WIFI mode you will not be able to access the over the air software update system (FOTA).

Short term work around: You will need to turn off WIFI in order to access the FOTA system

GPS


Known Issues


Google and Bing Maps Latency:

It has been reported that it takes longer then other devices to get GPS location information when using Google and Bing maps

Google Market Place


Informative Notifications


When downloading applications they are added to the end of the apps list and not integrated within the preload applications. Applications are sorted chronologically, not alphanumerically. (By download date /Time).


Hot Spot Application


Known Issues


Connected Devices Aren’t Listed:

The Device doesn’t show you who is connected to 3G Mobile Hotspot feature

Blocked (covered) Screen Sections:

After entering a new Password for the 3G Mobile Hotspot feature, the white bar above the keyboard blocks the “Save” and “Cancel” buttons making them difficult to press unless the “Return” Soft Key is pressed.

No Hidden Password:

There is no way to hide the 3G Mobile Hotspot password while typing characters.

Initial Activation


Known Issues


No Initial Reboot Warning:

When setting up the device for the first time, after you do the OTA via *228 option 1 it successfully programs and reboots the device however there is no reboot warning message displayed.

Mass storage or Media sync modes


Known Issues


Change Settings Prior To Connect:

Prior to connecting your device to a PC you have to go into the Settings > USB settings menu in order to choose Mass storage or Media sync modes.

Messaging


Known Issues


VVM Message Fails:

In some rare cases when you try to send a message after receiving a VVM notification, the message will fail.

No Message Delivery Acknowledgement:

There is no option for Message delivery acknowledgement

Extended Message (EMS) Delivery:

When the i500 receives an extended message (EMS) , greater then 160 characters, it is broken into (at least) two segments. These usually arrive in the Inbox as “1/2″ and “2/2″

Informative Notifications


Using a Call Back number in SMS messaging is not supported. You can however click on the contact name of a received message to view contact information


There is no option to preview an MMS message.


There is no option to set a Priority for messaging


There is no option to re-send a message


You can not send a V-card using messaging


Music On Demand (MOD)


Informative Notifications


When playing audio and the alarm clock sounds, the audio does not stop playing


PDF Attachments


Known Issues


Cannot Open PDF Attachments Directly From Email:

PDF attachments sent in email have no “Open” option in the email. Attachments can be saved and opened outside the email

Picture Gallery


Known Issues


Force Close:

In some rare occasions opening pictures causes the device to force close the application.

Playing Music or Audio Files


Known Issues


Service Notification:

If you are playing music or other audio files and you go out of service with the device the audio stops playing when the out of service notification is received

License Acquisition Failure:

When attempting to download a song from the V Cast Music with Rhapsody App and you are using an SD card from another device you may get an error message saying “”Download Incomplete. License Acquisition Failure. Retry Download?”

Searching While on a Call

Call Disconnect:

Sync Contacts

Same Number Listed Multiple Times:

When syncing contacts from multiple sources, contacts with the same name will be combined but the actual numbers are not compared so you may have the same number listed more then once under a contact

Visual Voicemail


Known Issues


Status Bar Does Not Update:

In some cases the Visual Voicemail status bar will not be updated when a new message is received. The home screen bubble count, phone screen bubble count and inbox do get updated correctly.

Icon Does Not Update:

After listening to a message then deleting it, the Icon is not updated on the home screen. The user has to manually refresh the mailbox for the icon to update.

Login Keyboard:

Visual Voicemail login uses a full qwerty keyboard instead of a dial pad.

Informative Notifications


New Visual Voice Mail message plays automatically without User selection of play key.


The I500 is designed so that no audible alert or vibration is indicated for an SMS, MMS, Email or VVM message during a voice call.


VZ Navigator

You can not run the VZnavigator application when in WIFI mode
